Indigenous Peoplesβ Day Phoenix Fest 2024
Indigenous Peoplesβ Day Phoenix Fest is back to "Amplify Indigenous Voices" with a vibrant celebration of Indigenous Art, Culture, Music, and Food. The event, hosted by Cahokia PHX in collaboration with valley partners such as Arizona Center, Downtown Phoenix Inc., Local First, the Phoenix Art Museum, and a multitude of Indigenous creatives and entrepreneurs, aims to provide festival-goers with immersive experiences that celebrate the diverse culture of Indigenous people.
The festival takes place on the ancestral lands of the Oβodham and Piipaash people. It transforms Arizona Center with a main musical stage, a second cultural stage, a skateboard and roller skating experience, an Indigenous Pop-up market, suite installations, food trucks, and a town hall brought to you by the Phoenix Indian Center. This year's festival includes signature events hosted by valley collaborators. We are delighted to present the 2024 Indigenous Peoples Day Phx Fest Official Schedule of Events.

Workshop 1: Dance Film Crash Course
**10am - 12pm**
This open-level workshop welcomes all experience levels into the world of dance filmmaking. Youβll dive into camera framing and angles and then have the chance to explore the collaborative partnership of being both in front of and behind the camera. Work in pairs to create a short, 1-minute, no-edit dance film guided by a storyboard, quick movement-making decisions (choreography), and sequential filming to produce a silent or live sound dance film. The session will conclude with a celebratory watch party and sharing circle to inspire future dance filmmaking processes.

Workshop 2: Camera + Movement Scores Play Lab
**12:30pm - 2:30pm**
This workshop is geared towards dancers/filmmakers with some previous dance film experience, though all are welcome to participate! Deepen your dance filmmaking practice through a series of prompts and movement scores that connect body, breath, and movement with intention as you move with, through, around, underneath, above, and inside the camera frame. The practice will enhance your camera stage presence and help you hold the camera with more steadiness and intention as a videographer. Towards the end of the workshop, explore ideas that have emerged in a playful co-creation session.

This workshop will explore the collaborative efforts between Saphi and prominent Peruvian financial institutions such as MIbanco and the digital wallet platform Yape. We'll showcase the tangible outcomes of our partnership, highlighting how these financial entities can now effectively serve Quechua-speaking individuals by offering services in their native language.
Additionally, participants will gain valuable insights into Saphi's journey, understanding its evolution and mission to promote linguistic and cultural diversity while fostering economic empowerment. As a special interactive segment, attendees will engage in an activity to learn basic Quechua words, further enhancing cultural appreciation and understanding.

Let's Take the A-train!: In-person BIPOC Arts Youth Class
Billy Strayhorn, a classically trained musician with his own jazz band, caught the attention of Duke Ellington during the Harlem Renaissance when he flawlessly played one of Duke's compositions. Impressed, Duke invited Strayhorn to New York, inspiring him to compose the iconic "Take the A Train." The fusion of abstract painting and jazz is explored in a program designed to introduce children to the fluidity of jazz music and abstract art. The class aims to teach color theory, abstract and expressionist techniques, composition and design, and critique skills.
